In 1997, Michele Meek founded NewEnglandFilm.com—its original iteration was only a few pages on a website. Before long, it had grown into an important online community resource with jobs and opportunities, an industry directory, local film industry news, a magazine, and the Online New England Film Festival. For over 25 years, NewEnglandFilm.com—with Michele at the helm—promoted thousands of local filmmakers and their projects; helped filmmakers find cast and crew; enabled actors and crew to find work; and supported local film business and production throughout New England.
In 2022, as Michele decided to retire NewEnglandFilm.com to work on other creative and scholarly projects, Women in Film & Video – New England stepped up to take over some of the resources of the site—including this jobs and opportunities database, which has been an essential resource for the regional film industry.
